GOP lawsuit targets alleged Biden ‘weaponizing’ of voter registration: ‘Democratic turnout machine’

State and federal Republican lawmakers have joined a lawsuit challenging President Biden’s executive order aimed at registering up to 3.5 million new voters before Election Day.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, along with Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) and Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-Texas), have accused Biden of “weaponizing” the federal agency. The lawsuit, filed with the America First Institute, alleges that the Biden administration is trying to turn the federal election agency into a “Democratic turnout machine.”

“The Biden Administration is once again weaponizing federal government agencies, this time to steer taxpayer dollars to liberal activist groups seeking to influence an election,” LaRose told Fox News Digital in a statement on Tuesday.

“This is a cynical attempt to turn a government agency into a Democratic turnout machine, and it’s wrong. That’s why I’m joining this lawsuit and working to hold the administration accountable,” he added.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in the Northern District of Texas, relates to an executive order Biden signed in March 2021 that sought to register and turn out 3.5 million additional voters before the 2024 election.

The administration justified the move under the National Voter Registration Act, but the lawsuit argues that the law has never been interpreted to allow such measures. The lawsuit also takes aim at outside groups, many of them left-leaning, that the White House has worked with to implement the order.

“Instead of instilling the policies the American people want and need, they are relying on an insidious Washington swamp full of Deep State allies to illegally register voters to help them win,” Jackson said in a statement to AFPI.

A virtual Democratic vote to nominate Biden could come as early as mid-July.

“To facilitate the implementation of the executive order, the White House held hearings with far-left groups such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, the American Civil Liberties Union, DEMOS and Black Lives Matter, strongly suggesting that the executive order is intended to give liberal Democrats a partisan advantage,” AFPI said.

The White House, in comments to Fox News Digital, denied the lawsuit and argued that Republicans were simply trying to restrict their voter base.

“These are baseless allegations made by people who have spread unfounded lies about the 2020 election and have used those unfounded lies to push laws across the country to make it harder to vote and easier to undermine the will of the people,” White House press secretary Robin Paterson said.

“The Biden-Harris Administration will continue to work to protect the voting rights of all Americans who are eligible to vote, regardless of their political affiliation,” Paterson added.

Biden is trying to reverse the negative debate narrative.
