GOP Senate candidate Larry Hogan launches Maryland bus tour as Dem candidates face off

Fox’s first appearance: Popular former Gov. Larry Hogan has begun a bus tour across Maryland in hopes of winning the state’s open Senate seat, but the primary is expected to be close, with Democrats fielding two candidates. Opinions are divided over who.

Hogan’s “Back to Work Bus Tour” will begin its 10-day route on Friday, covering hundreds of miles, according to the campaign.

“Our campaign looks forward to getting back on the streets and visiting communities across the state,” Hogan said in an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital. “This 10-day tour will help us fight for Maryland and send a message to Washington, directly to the people. Back to work!”

The tour will take you everywhere from urban areas to Maryland’s most rural areas, with the former governor visiting Garrett, Alleghany, Washington, Frederick and Carroll counties during the first two days.

The campaign’s tour kickoff coincides with the state starting mail-in ballots to voters for the May 14 primary election.

A notable stop on the tour is Hogan’s appearance in Montgomery County, one of the most Democratic counties in the state. During his stay, he plans to host a meet-and-greet with local business owners.

Hogan served as governor of Maryland from 2015 to 2023, and made history by becoming the second Republican to win two terms in the state’s history when he was re-elected in 2018. The last Republican to accomplish that was elected in 1954.

In a recent interview with FOX News Digital’s Paul Steinhauser, he was careful not to take anything for granted amid favorable polls. “I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the polls right now,” he said. “We have a lot of work to do.”

Last month’s Washington Post University of Maryland poll showed the former governor defeating leading Democratic candidates, Rep. David Trone (D-Md.) and Prince George’s County Executive Rep. Angela Alsobrooks. . Hogan defeated Tron 49% to 37% and also defeated Alsobrooks 50% to 36%.

He noted that despite the investigation, Maryland hasn’t elected Republican Sen. Charles Mathias since former President Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980.

Hogan said he knows the work needed to be done, but says, “If we work hard, we can move people beyond simply voting along party lines and do the job.” I am confident that we will be able to get people to vote for the person they think can do the job.” ”

The Biden campaign believes the president can reverse Florida Blue, citing Trump’s legal and financial problems.

Mr. Hogan is widely expected to win the Republican primary for Senate, and one previous leading Republican nominee withdrew shortly after the announcement and endorsed Mr. Hogan. “I’ve come to the conclusion that this is not my time,” retired Air Force Gen. John Teichert said in February, adding, “I’ve also come to the conclusion that this is Governor Larry Hogan’s time.”

But Democrats are less united in their choice of candidates.

A University of Maryland Washington Post poll found that several registered Democrats are undecided who they support. Thirty-four percent of respondents said they would support Tron if the election were held today, while Alsobrooks had 27 percent.

Both candidates have also succeeded in dividing federal Democrats, with many members voicing their support. However, Tron was highly sought after by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (New York), Democratic Party Leader Katherine Clark (Massachusetts), and House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D). It has an advantage in this field because it has the support to do so. -California
