Gorillaz Supports Macklemore After Ed Sheeran’s Tour Controversy

The English band Gorillaz seems to have made a statement regarding the removal of rapper Macklemore from Ed Sheeran’s tour by demonstrating a similar act during their performance last week.

While on stage in Florida on Thursday, frontman Damon Albarn presented a Palestinian flag, draping it over his shoulder as he engaged with the crowd. He urged them, “Don’t forget this. Ever. Stand your position. Don’t ever be neutral.”

Gorillaz is among several artists advocating for pro-Palestinian causes since the October 7 attacks. They had previously participated in the Together for Palestine concert in 2025 to support Palestinian organizations. During the Glastonbury Festival in 2024, Albarn had also asked the audience about their support for Palestine.

Amid the backdrop of Macklemore’s ejection from Sheeran’s tour, which drew criticism from various progressive figures, Ed Sheeran’s team stated he was not responsible for the decision.

Macklemore has been vocal about his activism, defending his right to speak out and perform his anti-Israel song “Hind’s Hall” during his shows. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he remarked that while the decisions made about his tour are significant, it’s important to acknowledge their shared privileges and platform as artists.

Sheeran addressed the ongoing controversy during a recent performance, clarifying his stance on the Israel-Palestine situation. He expressed that he prefers to focus on unity through music rather than political divisions, though he acknowledged the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza and the other recent tragic events.
