Sen. Lindsey Graham (Rs.C.) said on Sunday that he was worried about the consequences of suspending aid and information sharing to Ukraine as the fight against Russia continues.
“Yeah, I'm worried about blocking out intelligence and weapons towards Ukraine as long as the battle is happening,” Graham told Fox News Channel's Fox News Sunday.
“If you pull the plug in Ukraine it's worse than Afghanistan. He continued, “But until we have a ceasefire, I will give Ukraine what they need in terms of intelligence and weapons.”
Graham was critical of the way Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky handled the now-growing oval office meeting with President Trump and Vice President Vance.
During the meeting, Zelensky pushed American leaders over the history of breaking Russian President Vladimir Putin's ceasefire agreement, and Trump and Vance denounced Zelensky, accusing him of being in charge of paying for US support. The meeting was broadcast live on television.
The disastrous meeting seemed to suspend negotiations on a transaction to grant the US access to Ukraine's rare earth minerals, at least for the time being. Ukraine was seeking security assurances in exchange for its resources.
Trump has also decided to suspend aid to Ukraine with the US military and intelligence news. This is a move with many Republican lawmakers questioning what the US must get to inspire the president to reverse course on his decision.
Graham said on Sunday that it would introduce a law that would “sanction hell” if Russia were not at the negotiation table.
“From a Russian perspective, I will introduce sanctions next week in their banking and energy sectors and urge them to get to the table if they don't engage in government and ceasefire and peace negotiations. We should sanction hell from them. And I have laws to do that next week,” Graham said.
