A father from Montana, Adam Ghekiere, described his desperate attempts to reach out to his children after discovering that emergency responders were at his family’s home. His two children, Charlotte, age 12, and Landon, age 15, were among several family members tragically killed in a shooting incident that occurred before the house was set on fire.
In addition to his children, Ghekiere lost other family members, including his wife, stepchildren aged 7 and 13, and their 92-year-old great-grandmother, all of whom died in this devastating mass shooting, according to a report.
On the evening of the incident, Ghekiere was working as a rescue firefighter at an airshow when he received alarming updates about an event occurring near his in-laws’ residence in Billings.
“I tried to call the house, but no one picked up. I checked the locations of both Landon and Charlotte, and there was no response,” he recounted.
Upon arriving at the location, he faced barriers from law enforcement, who deemed the area unsafe due to an active shooter situation. “At that moment, I feared the worst,” he stated.
It later emerged that the shooter, who subsequently took his own life, was a relative of Ghekiere’s who had developed a grudge against his parents. “I really don’t think the shooter anticipated my kids would be there,” Ghekiere noted.
Authorities have yet to confirm a motive behind the tragic events and have not revealed the identity of the suspect. A press conference is set for Wednesday to provide additional information.
