Protests Erupt Over Governor’s Handling of ICE…
A nonprofit group, backed by Soros, rallied outside New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill’s office recently. The protesters accused the Democratic governor of promoting “MAGA propaganda” and failing to properly address the situation of immigrants detained at Delaney Hall in Newark.
This demonstration highlights the backlash Sherrill is encountering from the far-left factions within her own party. Cooper River Indivisible is known for directing donations toward influential Indivisible projects, showing their active involvement in supporting Democratic candidates.
They collaborate closely with their associated group, Indivisible Civics, and receive funding from the Open Society Action Fund, which is connected to well-known Democratic donor George Soros.
“We’re heading to Mikie Sherrill’s office to demand answers for the mess she has caused,” read the event registration page on a mobilization platform. The protesters claimed that Sherrill’s actions have led to harm both inside and outside Delaney Hall, resulting in arrests and injuries to peaceful demonstrators and journalists.
They are urging the governor to meet with the undocumented individuals held at the facility and release detainees who are young, elderly, or ill. The facility operates under a contract with ICE, managed by Geo Group Inc.
Cooper River Indivisible also accused the governor of inciting violence against peaceful protesters and claimed that after protesting for over a week at the ICE facility, she was spreading misleading narratives.
In the previous year, the Open Society Foundations awarded substantial grants to various Indivisible organizations, ostensibly to bolster social welfare activities.
Indivisible has taken a prominent role in various protest movements as well. Over the past week, protests at Delaney Hall have surged, with claims of violence resulting from the confrontations. Local law enforcement is reportedly not responsible for arresting those instigating violence, although multiple rioters were arrested by New Jersey State Police recently.
On Saturday, Sherrill stated that the state police intervened to protect activists, although most violence was reportedly between local police and rioters. The police employed heavy tactics to disperse the mob, including tear gas and noise bombs. Sherrill emphasized her commitment to keeping New Jersey residents safe, stating that the presence of ICE in the area poses a public safety threat.
By Saturday afternoon, Sherrill convened a press conference where she detailed demands to the Department of Homeland Security, insisting on family visitation rights and medical care for vulnerable detainees.
A DHS representative later clarified that the governor’s request was declined due to the prior chaos, but asserted that ICE operations would continue as usual now that Delaney Hall is secure. Attempts to reach Indivisible and Sherrill for comments went unanswered.
