Haitian illegal immigrant charged with raping pregnant woman at Mass. migrant motel

A Haitian man living in the United States illegally has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after he allegedly raped a pregnant woman at an immigrant hotel in Massachusetts.

The Boston Police Enforcement and Rejection Operations Unit (ERO) arrested 34-year-old Mark Karvens Beauvais in the north Boston town of Peabody on Aug. 13, nearly two weeks after he was arrested on suspicion of felony rape, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon on a pregnant victim, and attempted criminal assault.

Multiple law enforcement sources said the rape took place inside a migrant hotel.

Beauvais was arrested by the Peabody Police Department on July 31 and arraigned in Peabody District Court on Aug. 1.

During his detention, ERO Boston sought an immigration detention order against Beauvais.

During Tuesday’s court hearing, Beauvais was released on a judge’s bond, but ICE had agents present in the courtroom immediately arrest him.

“Mark Karvens Beauvais is accused of committing unspeakable acts against pregnant women in Massachusetts,” said Todd M. Lyons, ERO’s Boston regional director. “We cannot tolerate anyone making these kinds of threats and preying on the members of our communities.”

“ERO Boston will continue its mission of prioritizing public safety by aggressively apprehending and removing violent criminal aliens from New England.”

According to ICE, Beauvais was arrested by Border Patrol on June 26, 2021, after illegally entering the United States near Del Rio, Texas, and was subsequently notified to appear for processing and released into the United States.

The arrest came the same week that ICE located and arrested another Haitian immigrant, 26-year-old Corey B. Alvarez, who had been charged with raping a child at another Massachusetts migrant hotel in March but was released on $500 bail in June.

ICE issued a detention order for Alvarez, but the local sheriff’s office ignored it and released the 26-year-old on low bail — a request by authorities to notify ICE about someone they believe to be deportable so that ICE can take that person to federal custody for deportation.

Alvarez was arrested in a so-called sanctuary city and detention orders were ignored.

ICE agents found Alvarez in Brockton, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, according to law enforcement sources.

Alvarez arrived in June 2023 through the Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan (CHNV) parole process. The policy, first announced for Venezuelans in October 2022, allowed a limited number of people who were not in the country illegally, had sponsors already in the U.S. and passed certain screening procedures to fly directly into the U.S.

Alvarez’s charges relate to an incident in March in which he was accused of raping a 15-year-old girl while staying at a migrant hotel in Massachusetts. His lawyers say he is innocent of the allegations.
