Hans von Spakovsky, a senior legal researcher at Advancing American Freedom, stated on Breitbart News Daily that California has one of the most flawed election systems in the country.
“Honestly, I believe the election system here is the worst out of all states. It seems like they’ve purposely created a system that makes elections susceptible to manipulation,” he remarked. He pointed out that California doesn’t require voter ID and sends a ballot to every registered voter.
“They’re doing very little to maintain the integrity of the voter rolls. For instance, in Los Angeles, many residents in condos or apartment complexes report receiving ballots intended for people who have moved away,” he highlighted, illustrating the extent of the issue and suggesting that some may get multiple ballots.
“People are sharing these experiences, which indicates it’s an ongoing issue,” he noted. He also mentioned that the state allows ballots to be counted if they arrive up to seven days after the election, with a 22-day period for fixing ballots that have problems like missing signatures. However, he believes the solutions offered are inadequate.
“They inform voters, saying, ‘If you come to us, we’ll ensure your vote counts.’ They’ve even made what I term ‘ballot trafficking’ legal. They refer to it as ‘vote harvesting,’ but the reality is they visit voters at home to collect absentee votes. You’re essentially paying people to gather these forms, which opens the door for pressure to vote a certain way or directly influence how you fill out your ballot,” he explained, adding that it is easy to bypass the witness signature requirement.
“There’s supposed to be a witness signature, but there’s no address requirement, and no election official is available to verify these witnesses. So if someone is fraudulently signing absentee ballots, I assure you, even if Scooby-Doo is your witness, it’s likely to get approved,” von Spakovsky asserted.
He continued, mentioning that while signature comparisons are expected, there’s no consistent standard since each county decides whether to implement it.
“Ultimately, this system is just set up to fail,” he concluded.
