Dan Coe Faces Scrutiny Over Home Ownership

Dan Coe, the candidate chosen by former Vice President Kamala Harris for Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District, is under fire for owning a luxurious home valued at $1 million located in Washington, D.C., far from the district he seeks to represent.

Coe, who previously worked in senior roles during President Joe Biden’s administration, is running in a packed field to succeed U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton, a Democrat who’s aiming for a Senate seat. He’s garnered support from Harris, who describes him as someone who “knows how to get things done.”

The Coes own a $1.3 million residence in a desirable area near Capitol Hill, purchased in 2022, as reported by the D.C. Department of Taxation and Revenue.

They also possess a home in Andover, Massachusetts, located within the 6th District, which they bought in 2019 for $810,000, according to local property records.

Massachusetts Republican Party Chairwoman Amy Carnevale criticized Coe, suggesting this behavior has become a trend among Democrats. She claimed, “It seems like a family tradition among populist Democrats to live full-time in Washington, D.C., from a no-show home in Massachusetts.”

Carnevale also took aim at Senator Ed Markey, another Massachusetts Democrat, calling him the “Senator from Chevy Chase” due to his infrequent presence in the state. “Dan Coe is now trying to follow in that tradition. What a shame for actual residents of Massachusetts who deserve better,” Carnevale expressed.

In response, a representative for Coe’s campaign stated, “Mr. Coe lives full-time with his wife in the Andover home he has owned for more than six years.”

Further adding to the narrative, a spokesperson emphasized that Coe “lived with his family in Washington, D.C., while serving as a senior White House official during the Biden-Harris administration.” Tax documents confirm that they still own their D.C. home as of August.

On October 28, Harris endorsed Coe, noting, “During my time in the White House, I have seen Coe’s steadfast efforts to make life better and more affordable for working people. He knows how to get things done, he’s going to be the fighter you deserve, and he’ll be ready from day one,” she proclaimed. She encouraged voters in Massachusetts’ 6th District to back his campaign.

Coe’s campaign highlighted that Harris was among the first to endorse him in this election cycle, emphasizing the importance of electing a capable Democratic leader for the district. “I am honored that Vice President Harris has endorsed our campaign,” Coe remarked, adding that he appreciated her dedication during his time at the White House.

He concluded, “From day one, I will be ready to bring the same brand of leadership to the Capitol and work to deliver results for our commonwealth and our nation’s families.”
