Hawaiian Airlines Flight Evacuated Due to Possible Bomb Threat
One person has been arrested following the evacuation of a Hawaiian Airlines flight that was about to leave from San Diego International Airport amidst a bomb threat concern.
According to the San Diego Harbor Police, Hawaiian Airlines Flight 15 was grounded after the captain alerted authorities about a potential threat. This report came after a passenger indicated that there might be a bomb on board.
Initially, the flight was headed to Honolulu. The situation arose when flight attendants informed the captain about the passenger’s report, shortly after the aircraft had disconnected from the jetway.
Brianne Mundy Page, a spokesperson for San Diego, mentioned in an email that more details about the suspect might emerge later. At the moment, specific information about the individual in question remains undisclosed.
The San Diego Harbor Police, assisted by various specialized teams, including the K-9 unit and the Joint Terrorism Task Force, immediately began a thorough search of the aircraft and its surroundings.
All 293 passengers were safely evacuated from the plane and moved to a secure area while law enforcement conducted their investigation.
A passenger, Isai Solorzano, recounted the scene, saying that when a man stood up, authorities promptly directed him to turn around and then placed him in handcuffs.
Interestingly, law enforcement did discover a suspicious item during their inspection of the aircraft. However, it’s unclear what the item may have been.
The airport stated that while the investigation was ongoing, there were no significant delays reported for flights or operations at San Diego International Airport.
