Tragic Death of California Football Player
A talented football player from California has passed away after jumping off a cliff near Sunken City in San Pedro, a location often associated with distressing circumstances.
Nineteen-year-old Kadyn Perkins jumped on July 21. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded later that afternoon to reports of someone in the water in the Sunken City area.
Firefighters discovered Perkins at the base of the cliff, just above the water’s edge. The Los Angeles County Coroner has ruled his death a suicide.
Perkins was a standout player at Alexander Hamilton High School, where he graduated in 2025.
In a heartfelt social media tribute, Hamilton High School’s football coach, Elijah Asante, expressed his sorrow to his players, emphasizing that their worth goes beyond just sports.
“Today, our Hamilton family is hurting,” Asante wrote. “We are mourning the loss of our teammate and brother, Kadyn Perkins. There are no words that can fully explain the pain we feel, or answer the questions in our hearts. All we know is that Kadyn’s life was taken far too soon. Our hearts are with his family, friends, classmates, and everyone who loved him.”
Following this, Asante shared a poignant message for his players: “As a coach, I want you to hear this loud and clear: You are more important than football. You are more important than any game, any score, any championship. Your life matters! When life gets tough, don’t tackle it alone. Speak to your parents. Talk to your coach. Reach out to your teachers and teammates. There is strength in asking for help.”
He added, “Your future is bigger than your present pain. Many struggles you face now may not even register in the future. Remember, there are people who care for you, who believe in you, and will stand by you even when you feel like giving up.”
Reactions poured in on Asante’s post, filled with prayer emojis and expressions of sympathy for both the coach and team, along with responses from Perkins’ family.
“Thank you, Coach, my cousin,” one response from a user named Joshua Joyce read.
Asante replied, “My condolences to you and your family!”
