Henry Cuellar: Democrats should focus on border security, cost of living rather than 'talk of joy’

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) said during Tuesday's appearance on “NewsNation Now” with Connell McShane that Democrats were unable to connect with voters because of talking points that didn't resonate. Ta.

He also highlighted areas the party needs to work on to regain the attention of working-class Americans.

“Democrats need to focus first on strong border security. And they need to look at what the cost of living is for individuals,” Cuellar said in an interview with NewsNation.

“You know, people pay for their eggs and milk and bread every day, and they don't want to talk about 'joy stories' like the damaging Democrats have done on a national level,” he said. added.

“So this is what Democrats should be focusing on.”

According to exit polls, President-elect Trump won the support of black and Latino voters, as well as voters who place immigration and the economy as top issues.

Some of his gains were in historically Democratic counties like Starr County, which Cuellar represents. President Trump flips Texas border counties that didn't vote for Republican presidential candidate for over a century.
