Hillary Clinton Criticizes Biden’s 2024 Bid as a ‘Terrible Mistake’

In a recent interview, Hillary Clinton labeled former President Joe Biden’s attempt to run for re-election in 2024 as a “terrible mistake,” suggesting he should have stepped aside for new leadership. This critique has raised eyebrows, especially considering her past support for him. The hosts on Fox & Friends examined the irony and timing of her remarks and pointed out the Democratic Party’s struggles with collaboration and diverse viewpoints on significant political choices, highlighting what they see as weaknesses in the party’s approach.

Clinton has been vocal about her disdain for the Electoral College, which she describes as “abhorrent,” in the trailer for her forthcoming Netflix documentary series titled “The American Experiment.” She expresses her frustration by noting, “Personally, I think the Electoral College is an abomination, and it’s obvious why.” The series will commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, exploring the evolution of democracy in the U.S. It includes interviews with various politicians and historians, such as former Vice Presidents Kamala Harris and Mike Pence, as well as figures like Al Gore, Ted Cruz, and Nancy Pelosi.

Support for abolishing the Electoral College—established in 1787—has gained traction among some Democrats, particularly since Clinton’s 2016 defeat to Donald Trump. Although she won the national popular vote, Trump captured crucial battleground states that allowed him to claim the presidency.

In her 2017 memoir, Clinton criticized the Electoral College, calling it the “Godforsaken Electoral College.” She reiterated her stance during an interview with Anderson Cooper, describing it as an “anachronism designed for another era” that “is no longer working.” Clinton emphasized the importance of moving towards a system where votes translate directly into electoral outcomes, stating, “We’ve been moving toward one person, one vote, and that’s how we pick winners.” She voiced hope that the country would eventually surpass this outdated system.

A few months before Trump defeated Harris in the 2024 election, Clinton raised concerns about the electoral framework, indicating, “We’re the underdogs. That’s to be expected for this region, when you’re being stared at by the Electoral College.”

Clinton has faced backlash following her electoral defeat. The director of her upcoming documentary, Brian Knappenberger, noted that he was eager to capture her thoughts on that challenging time in her life. He remarked on her unique position as one of the few individuals in American history to win the popular vote yet not secure the presidency.

Representing a notable view, California Democratic Representative Zoe Lofgren commented in the same trailer that “the founders themselves did not love the Electoral College,” adding that it was flawed from the start. She pointed out that the current structure often denies representation to significant portions of the population, sometimes against majority interests.
