Hillary Scholten claims El-Sayed is making sexist attacks against women candidates.

Michigan Democrat supports Haley Stevens instead of progressive Abdul El-Sayed

Michigan Democratic Rep. Hilary Scholten Criticizes Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed

In an interview on Wednesday, Michigan Democratic Representative Hilary Scholten made some pointed accusations against progressive Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. She claimed he has engaged in “serious sexist attacks” against his female opponents, particularly highlighting his remarks about Rep. Haley Stevens and Governor Gretchen Whitmer. This comes ahead of the state’s primary on August 4.

Scholten expressed her concern, stating, “There’s a unique sexist tone to what people say about women.” She mentioned El-Sayed’s comment suggesting that Congresswoman Stevens “can’t string two sentences together” and described her as “like an empty vessel.”

Interestingly, Scholten supported Stevens in the race to fill the seat of retiring Senator Gary Peters. She argued that El-Sayed, instead of addressing policy issues, chooses to demean Stevens’s intelligence and character.

She further emphasized, “It’s one thing to attack someone because of the nature of the issue. It’s another thing to take part in a serious sexist attack.”

Although Fox News Digital sought comments from Stevens and El-Sayed, there was no immediate response.

Previously, El-Sayed had referred to Stevens as a “litigator with a large AIPAC account,” implying that the pro-Israel group could potentially teach her “how to string two coherent sentences together.”

Scholten also recalled El-Sayed’s comments during his unsuccessful gubernatorial bid against Whitmer, asserting, “Going back to the campaign with Governor Whitmer, the governor said she was bought and sold by her father’s company,” comparing her to property and suggesting she lacks independent ideas.

In response, El-Sayed’s spokesperson, Roxy Richner, pushed back against Scholten’s claims, arguing, “Unless there is something specific that a lawmaker wants to criticize, it may be best to avoid repeating throwaway lines to push baseless narratives.”

Scholten expressed concern over El-Sayed’s affiliation with Hasan Piker, a streamer known for controversial remarks about America. She highlighted this connection, stating, “For me, it’s about beginners,” implying that such associations could lead the Democratic Party in a negative direction.

When asked if she would support El-Sayed if he won against Stevens, Scholten was indirect, stating, “I cannot and will not approach comments that say America deserved 9/11.” She voiced that allowing candidates associated with such rhetoric can harm the party’s reputation.

El-Sayed has called for an end to personal attacks on Stevens, remarking that mocking individuals online for unrelated personal traits is both “unkind and unkind.” He urged supporters to stop such behavior.
