Media Criticism of ICE Operations in Los Angeles

Tom Homan, a key figure in border control, expressed on Monday that the media has attributed chaos during the recent protests in downtown Los Angeles solely to actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” he criticized the media for not presenting the full context of the investigations occurring in the fashion district.

Homan remarked, “The facts never came out. Despite the facts, the media didn’t cover them. They just referred to ‘immigrant raids,’ separating all the negative information we hear.”

ICE agents conducted operations across several businesses in Los Angeles on a Friday, leading to protests and clashes with law enforcement. The chaos escalated over the weekend, prompting the Department of Homeland Security to call on California leaders to “stop the riots.”

According to a statement from DHS, “Last night, more than 1,000 people surrounded the federal law enforcement building, attacking ICE officials, slashing tires, and damaging taxpayer-funded property. It took the Los Angeles Police Department two hours to respond.”

Amid the unrest, President Trump dispatched 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, with arrival beginning on Sunday morning.

Homan further emphasized that the media and some liberal voices overlooked the legitimate reasons behind ICE’s operation in Los Angeles. He clarified, “The fashion district was not an immigrant raid. It’s part of a criminal warrant service related to a significant investigation involving money laundering, tax evasion, and customs fraud.”

He added that the investigation is part of a larger conspiracy that suggests some financial operations might be connected to laundering in Mexico and Colombia.

During the operation on Friday, ICE agents apprehended individuals with serious criminal records, including murderers and sex offenders. Homan highlighted that they managed to remove several dangerous individuals from the streets.

Reflecting on the recent events, Homan stated, “Over the last few days, we’ve driven many bad people off the streets. We arrested a child predator, someone charged with sexual misconduct, and several gang members.” He concluded by asserting that ICE’s presence in Los Angeles is enhancing public safety.
