Horse racing, college basketball games postponed due to devastating wildfires across Los Angeles region

Wildfires have destroyed neighborhoods across Los Angeles in recent days.

More than 12,000 homes were destroyed in the fierce fire, and at least 11 people were killed.

The latest evacuation order comes as a wildfire flares up on the city's west side, prompting Santa Anita to cancel horse racing events scheduled for this weekend.

The Arcadia racetrack, located near the smoldering Eaton Fire that devastated Altadena, announced Friday that it plans to proceed with Saturday's racing, subject to atmospheric conditions.

But racetrack officials said Saturday's race would be canceled due to new developments in the Palisades fire.

Racetrack officials say air quality standards at the track are well within limits set by the California Horse Racing Board and the Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Authority. But organizers were concerned about the growing impact of the fires across Los Angeles County.

Rose Bowl Half Marathon and 5K postponed due to wildfires

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection confirmed the Palisades Fire was 11% contained as of Saturday morning, and the Eaton Fire was 15% contained.

The 90-year-old truck in Southern California is also used to support various relief efforts.

The charity's drop-off station at the Rose Bowl was relocated Friday to Santa Anita's south parking lot. Southern California Edison is using its entire north parking lot as a hub to restore power to people in affected areas. This truck works with other organizations requesting space.

Saturday and Sunday morning practices will be held as scheduled. The truck has its own security staff and does not use local first responders for typical events.

Rescheduled dates for postponed races will be announced at a later date.
