Hospital nurses saw man smoke crack before he disrobed and tried to sexually assault sleeping stroke patient, police say

Georgia State Police say a woman recovering from a stroke woke up in the hospital to find a naked man trying to do something to her. sexual assault After the nurses watched him smoke in the elevator, she said:

The alarming incident occurred at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta on September 27th at approximately 4:30 p.m., when police say 24-year-old Shamon Pierce entered and headed for the elevator.

“She started moving and told him to get off, so they both fell off the bed. She tried to scream for someone to help.”

Several nurses in the elevator said Pierce began smoking crack in front of them. They reported the incident to security.

Pearce then took off his clothes and sneaked into the room of a 47-year-old female patient who was sleeping and recovering from a stroke. She woke up to find him on top of her and attempting to sexually assault her.

“She started moving and told him to get off, causing them both to fall off the bed. She tried to scream for someone to help,” the reporting officer wrote.

Police said a nurse heard the commotion and took action against the man. She took a photo with her cell phone and called another nurse. When they arrived, they attempted to lock the room to prevent Pierce from escaping. He was able to overpower them and fled naked.

police said Surveillance camera video showed him entering a dumpster and hiding for more than an hour. They later found the man under a bridge near the hospital. Investigators said they found his clothes and a cracked pipe in the victim's room.

When questioned by police, Pierce reportedly told police he was “high” and “just trying something new.”

He was charged with numerous crimes, including intent to rape, sexual assault, and assault.

The hospital said it was updating its safety measures following this incident and the incident in which a murder suspect who was being treated on the same day escaped while in custody.
