House Republicans propose legislation to undo Biden's energy rules and support Trump's agenda

Republicans Propose Bill to Reinforce Trump’s Energy Policies

A recent bill introduced by House Republicans aims to bolster former President Donald Trump’s energy regulations while countering the extensive regulations set by his Democratic predecessor. Representative Craig Goldman from Texas has put forth legislation that establishes a five-year timeframe for all new energy regulations, along with a one-year deadline to reassess numerous existing regulations.

This move follows Trump’s earlier efforts to dismantle the energy constraints imposed by President Joe Biden in his initial year in office. If Goldman’s bill gains traction, it could severely limit a future Democratic administration’s capacity to introduce long-term energy strategies similar to Biden’s, many of which have been criticized by Republicans as excessive and unwarranted.

Goldman voiced his concern on Fox News Digital, arguing that these regulations are driving up the costs of everyday life for Americans. “This bill essentially examines the full spectrum of energy costs and their effects on taxpayers,” he explained.

He referenced how significantly rising energy costs, including those at the gas pump, impact other aspects of people’s lives. For instance, he recalled a time when he and his father ran a wine and food store, and a delivery driver faced a steep increase in fees due to rising gas prices. “So, the price of cheese went up,” he noted, emphasizing that increased energy costs ripple through the economy, ultimately affecting every taxpayer.

Goldman’s legislation specifically targets regulations linked to key energy and land management laws governed by the Departments of Energy and the Interior. Already this term, the House has seen bipartisan approvals to reverse several of Biden’s regulatory measures. Recently, 11 Democrats sided with Republicans to invalidate rules regarding showerhead pressure. Earlier, both chambers passed resolutions to revoke regulations on water heaters, with some Democratic support.

In the lead-up to the November 2026 midterm elections, energy costs are becoming a pivotal issue for both parties. Despite this, Goldman contends that Democrats find it challenging to discuss affordability, particularly as some prices, like gasoline, are projected to decrease in the near future. “We’ve made people acknowledge affordability and reflect on how prices were over a year ago,” Goldman remarked, noting the shift in the affordability dialogue.

The bill is co-sponsored by several Republican representatives, including August Pflueger, Beth Van Duyne, Randy Weber, Dan Crenshaw, Anna Paulina Luna, Pat Harrigan, and Barry Moore. Its Senate equivalent was introduced by Senator Jim Risch of Idaho.
