Hundreds of additional officers are sent to Minnesota by DHS.

The Department of Homeland Security is deploying hundreds of additional federal officers to Minnesota.

This move is part of an effort to support U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol, particularly in Minneapolis, where tensions have risen significantly after the January 7th shooting of a woman by an ICE officer. The incident occurred when she allegedly attempted to run him over with her car.

Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, stated that the agency’s primary aim is to enforce immigration laws and ensure accountability among those who engage in violent protests.

She has publicly supported the ICE agent involved in the incident, emphasizing that his actions were in self-defense.

“They (Renee Good) were breaking the law by impeding and obstructing a law enforcement operation,” Noem noted when discussing the shooting. “Those officers were acting based on their training to address the situation appropriately.”

“He defended himself,” she added regarding the officer who shot Good three times at close range. “And he defended those around him.”

Noem has also urged local and state leaders to reconsider how they approach federal interventions in the state.

On Sunday night, demonstrators clashed with police, with further protests occurring on Monday.
