A man, who immigrated illegally and was found guilty of using alcohol and drugs to exploit minors while coaching soccer, has been sentenced to three decades in prison.
Camilo Campos Hurtado, originally from Mexico and residing in Franklin, Tennessee, pleaded guilty in June to several charges, including multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, receiving materials related to child sexual abuse, and possessing fake immigration and identification documents.
During a hearing on July 2, federal prosecutors recommended a 50-year sentence.
Lauren Biss, Acting Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), stated, “This individual, an illegal immigrant, has accepted guilt related to child exploitation and pornography after repeatedly drugging and assaulting minors in his role as a soccer coach. If he is released, ICE will deport him immediately. He will never pose a threat to a child in our country again.”
The inquiry into Campos-Hurtado began earlier this year when explicit videos were found on a cellphone left at a local business. The individual who discovered the videos reported them to the Franklin Police Department, as per the Justice Department.
Investigators later searched Campos-Hurtado’s home and vehicle, uncovering electronic devices filled with child sexual abuse material and several fraudulent immigration and identification documents.
Although the crimes related to his charges occurred from 2017 to 2021, a forensic review of his electronic devices revealed that Campos-Hurtado had been producing child sexual abuse material as far back as January 13, 2013.
The exact timeline of his illegal entry into the United States is not known, according to DHS.
