Hunter Biden Faces Lawsuit Over Unpaid Legal Fees

Hunter Biden owes more than $50,000 to the law firm that represented him during federal investigations, notably his gun case in Delaware. This was revealed in a lawsuit filed against him on Monday.

The complaint, lodged by Winston & Strawn LLP in the Special Court of Columbia, claims that Hunter’s failure to pay these legal costs violates the contract he signed with the firm.

According to the lawsuit, the 55-year-old Hunter engaged Winston & Strawn to handle various complex legal matters, including his criminal trial in the U.S. District Court for Delaware. The firm asserts they provided extensive legal services during this time, which ultimately led to significant expenses.

Winston & Strawn alleges that Hunter has sidestepped their repeated requests for payment. While some fees have been settled, the firm states that a substantial amount still remains unpaid.

The lawsuit aims to enforce Winston & Strawn’s contractual rights through a ruling and a lien on Biden’s assets.

The complaint includes Hunter’s signed “Engagement Agreement” from December 23, 2022. This document stipulated the coordination of work among various legal experts regarding ongoing investigations and strategies linked to congressional inquiries involving him.

Abbe Lowell, one of Hunter’s lawyers who has since left Winston & Strawn, noted that his current hourly rate stands at $1,510, while other lawyers involved range from $230 to $1,945 per hour. No immediate comment was available from Lowell on this matter.

Winston & Strawn emphasizes that significant resources have been devoted to advocating for Hunter regarding these engagement agreements. They pointed out that while some of Hunter’s bills were settled between March 2023 and October 2024, a considerable balance remains due. As of April 30, 2025, the amount owed, including invoiced fees and interest, exceeds $50,000.

The firm claims “substantial financial damages” due to Hunter’s purported breach of the engagement agreement. A hearing for this case is slated for September 19.

Winston & Strawn has refrained from commenting further on the lawsuit.

In the context of ongoing congressional investigations into former President Joe Biden, Kevin Mori, known as Hunter’s “sugar brother,” informed investigators last year that he assisted in covering “various lawyers” for Hunter.

In May 2024, not long before Hunter’s trial in Delaware for a felony gun charge, Morris indicated that he had been “fully kicked out” amid growing financial obligations.

Hunter, who reportedly earned around $1.5 million from selling abstract art, was convicted of three felonies in the Delaware gun case and subsequently pleaded guilty to charges related to tax evasion in California. He received forgiveness from his father in December, just weeks before President Biden stepped down.
