WASHINGTON – Hunter Biden, the then-son of President Joe Biden, reached out to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) about covering his growing legal expenses related to federal tax and gun charges he was facing last year.
During this time, the DNC had already been involved in another federal investigation concerning Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents but seemed reluctant to assist with Hunter’s legal fees.
By June 2024, Kevin Morris, often referred to as Hunter’s “Sugar Brother,” had already settled over $2 million in tax delinquencies linked to Hunter’s legal issues and was dealing with additional expenses related to those cases.
These financial obligations included ongoing alimony payments for child support to Hunter’s ex-wife, Kathleen Boule, and Landen Roberts, the mother of Aiko Navy Joan, as outlined in a June 2023 settlement.
The total legal expenses for Hunter were anticipated to reach around $5 million, as highlighted by Morris during testimony to Republican investigators.
Afterward, Morris’s daughter had some harsh words for him, claiming he had benefited from a “massive utilization.”
In June 2024, Hunter was convicted on three felony gun charges.
Additionally, last month, a law firm representing Hunter initiated a lawsuit against him for failing to pay over $50,000 in legal fees.
Hunter pled guilty in September to various tax felonies, acknowledging he owed the IRS $1.4 million. A few months later, his father effectively absolved him of potential criminal charges from January 1, 2014, to December 1, 2024.
Journalists Josh Dorsey, Tyler Paiger, and Isaac Earnsdorf reported that President Biden remarked to a close friend about his son, saying he had not been convicted yet, prior to Hunter’s first conviction, as noted in an excerpt published in the Wall Street Journal.
There was a time when the president considered starting a legal defense fund to counter federal investigations and to address a separate Congressional inquiry into Hunter’s involvement in foreign influence.
A book titled “2024: How Trump Loses America by the White House and the Democrats” was released by Penguin Press on July 8th.
Abbe Lowell, a prior attorney for both the DNC and Hunter, did not respond to inquiries for comments.
