The city of Huntington Beach has filed a lawsuit against California to support its “protect dangerous illegal aliens” law and sanctuary policies.
The city is collaborating with the American First Legal (AFL). Sue the stateGov. GavinNewsom (D) and Attorney General Robert Bonta said in a recent press release about conduct and policies that violate federal immigration, criminal and civil rights laws.
“Since California began passing the Sanctuary Act in 2017, “local law enforcement has brought tens of thousands of dangerous offenders back into the community, and violent crime has skyrocketed nearly 20% across the state,” the AFL wrote.
The Legal Aid Group noted that in Orange County alone, it released more than 1,000 dangerous, illegal aliens in 2018 alone.
The lawsuit aims to California's sanctuary law, which limits the ability of all local police to work with immigration and customs enforcement agencies and other federal agencies. The lawsuit asks the courts to ban the state from enforcing unconstitutional sanctuary state laws.
“Federal law is clear. It is a crime to hide, port or protect illegal aliens, and it is a crime to prevent federal officials from exempting their duties. It is also a violation of federal law to prevent local officials from communicating with DHS about the situation of individual immigration,” said James Rogers, senior adviser at First Legal.
“Our country's immigration law reflects the will of the Democrats and it's dishonorable that California is actively trying to destroy it while promoting our country's invasion,” Rogers continued. “It's outrageous that the city of Huntington Beach must ask for a court order so that it can allow the city to comply with federal law and cooperate with the efforts of legitimate federal law enforcement. First Legal is proud to represent Huntington Beach in a stand for sanity and the rule of law. The AFL will fight hard to push back the overthrow of federal law in California.”
