Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he hopes the intelligence community will “silence” former President Donald Trump from his press conferences if he wins the nomination. He said he was doing it.
anchor Kristen Welker said. “I would like to ask you about this development. This weekend, U.S. intelligence officials are scheduled to brief Donald Trump. The former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee faces 40 felonies for handling classified documents. It will be interesting to see whether he formally secures the nomination, despite the fact that he is being briefed by the intelligence community.Do you think it is appropriate for him to be briefed by the intelligence community?
Schiff said, “Well, that’s the practice, but we’ve never had a situation where one of our presidential candidates has been as criminally negligent, if not more so, in his handling of classified information.” So, knowing the intelligence community as well as I do, I have to hope that they will shut down the press conference with Donald Trump. This means giving him no more information than is absolutely necessary, and nothing that would reveal his source or method, because you can’t trust him to do the right thing with the information. Because he was so reckless. Yeah, that bothers me too. It’s part of a long tradition of them being careful about what they share with him, and they should be.”
