Tragic Incident Involving Illegal Immigrant and Pennsylvania State Trooper
This month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released photos of a man accused of killing Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Pahila Jr., who entered the United States through a parole program initiated during Joe Biden’s presidency.
As reported, on July 1, Trooper Pahila, 44, was conducting a safety check on an 18-wheeler on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County when he was tragically struck by another truck.
Authorities stated that an 18-wheeler, driven by Michael Bonn, a 33-year-old illegal immigrant from Haiti, veered off the interstate, hit Pahila’s patrol car, and then collided with the rear of the vehicle Pahila was inspecting.
Pahila was caught under the front of Bonn’s semi, which subsequently caught fire. Nearby construction workers managed to pull him from the wreckage, and he was taken to a hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.
Trooper Pahila is survived by his parents, Michael and Patti, along with his sister, brother-in-law, two nieces, and many friends and family members. A fundraising initiative has been set up to assist the family with funeral costs.
On Tuesday, ICE officials shared Bonn’s photo and the commercial driver’s license (CDL) he obtained in Massachusetts, despite being undocumented.
According to Lauren Biss from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), “This Haitian illegal alien was released into our country by the Biden administration, and the sanctuary state of Massachusetts granted him a commercial driver’s license.”
“Now, because of these reckless policies, a Pennsylvania State Trooper has died in a crash that was 100% preventable. Illegal immigrants should not be operating trucks on American highways. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the Pennsylvania State Police during this mourning period.”
Bonn had flown into the U.S. from Haiti in July 2024, benefiting from the CHNV (Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan) parole program initiated by Biden and former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. This program permitted many illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. through airports.
He applied for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) as a Haitian citizen in October 2024 but was not granted this benefit. Nevertheless, he managed to acquire a CDL in Massachusetts and drove a semi-truck on highways across the country.
Bonn faces charges of vehicular homicide and manslaughter. ICE agents have moved to detain him, requesting that he be held should he be released at any point.
