ICE Detains Another Noncitizen With a Long Criminal History Who Cast a Vote in US Elections

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently arrested a Bahamian national in Georgia, accused of voting illegally in the 2020 election, as detailed in documents sourced by the Daily Caller.

On September 3, ICE, along with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Atlanta, apprehended Anthony Tyrone Higgs in Decatur, Georgia.

Higgs has a notable criminal record, which includes convictions for multiple serious offenses: two counts of grand larceny, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of possessing a weapon during a violent crime, assaulting a police officer, domestic violence, and resisting arrest. Additionally, HSI Atlanta confirmed in August 2026 that Higgs had voted illegally in the 2020 election.

He is currently in the custody of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).

When discussing Higgs’ situation, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin commented to the Caller, saying, “This criminal alien from the Bahamas has a rap sheet for multiple violent crimes, including armed robbery, domestic violence, and assault on a police officer.”

“Furthermore, he illegally voted in the 2020 election. When even one non-citizen casts a vote, it undermines the voice of an American citizen. Thanks to the diligent efforts of ICE, we can ensure this individual will be removed from our country, preventing any future interference in our elections.”

Higgs first entered the United States as a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) back in October 1976. DHS has initiated removal proceedings to revoke his LPR status based on his criminal activities.

Recently, DHS has taken several steps concerning election security and the eligibility of voters. (RELATED: 220 Noncitizens Had ‘History’ Of Voting In New Jersey Elections Before Registration ‘Glitch’)

In July, Mullin sent letters to state secretaries cautioning them about noncitizens registered to vote.

During the same month, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) declared that grant recipients must take certain actions to enhance election security.

In June, DHS instructed ICE to impose stricter penalties against noncitizens voting illegally in American elections, including deportation.

On September 1, ICE and HSI officers also arrested Mariana Alexandra Dewey, a Peruvian national, for allegedly misrepresenting herself as a U.S. citizen while voting in the 2024 general election in Kansas, as reported by the Caller. Dewey has been charged with several offenses, including one count of falsely claiming citizenship, another for falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to vote, one count of fraudulent election conduct, and one for voting as an alien in a federal election.
