A “dangerous” inmate in Idaho escaped from hospital custody early Wednesday morning after a second suspect ambushed a police officer, opened fire and attacked two people, authorities said.
Boise Police say the shooting happened at 2:15 a.m. as Idaho Department of Corrections (IDOC) officers were preparing to return inmate Skyler Meade to the prison after receiving treatment at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. Occurred.
An unidentified suspect attacked and fired shots at the officers. One police officer who was hit is in serious but stable condition, and the other officer suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Boise Police responded and a third IDOC officer was injured after firing at an armed person near the hospital entrance. IDOC personnel were not seriously injured and were treated.

“This brazen, violent and apparently coordinated attack on an Idaho Department of Corrections employee to facilitate the escape of a dangerous inmate was carried out in the emergency department, where people often go seeking medical assistance in the most dire of situations. in front of the public,” Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar said in a written statement.

Hospital spokeswoman Leticia Ramirez said the hospital was temporarily placed on lockdown after an “shooting incident” by the emergency department in the emergency room.

“All patients and staff are safe, the medical center campus is safe, and we have resumed normal operations,” Ramirez said in a statement to The Associated Press. Ramirez added that the hospital has increased security and has closed all entrances until further notice.

Police said the two wanted suspects were last seen traveling in a gray four-door sedan, possibly a Honda Civic, with ID plates. Both suspects are said to be armed and dangerous.
Meade was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2017 for firing at a Twin Falls sheriff’s sergeant during a high-speed chase. His previous convictions include felony possession of a controlled substance, grand larceny, and introducing contraband into a correctional facility.
The identity of the second suspect was not immediately released.
