‘I’m Baffled’: Mark Halperin Says Trump’s ‘Opponents’ Have Been Completely Failing To Block His Agenda

Veteran journalist Mark Halperin said on a podcast Friday that opponents of President Donald Trump were “baffled” by the seemingly ineffective efforts to block his political agenda.

“The Commentary Magazine Podcast” Halperin I said He's out of the Trump administration's words, adding that the public and the media have only witnessed a small fraction of what's actually happening.

“I'm paid to be confused or not speechless. That's what my job was. I'm confused and somewhat speechless. I've been thinking about it for the past few days. As a journalist. Is there anything in my career that I've covered with comparing it to? And the answer is no,” Halperin said. “We've covered the presidential election, the government, the bombing of Oklahoma City, the OJ Simpson trial. I've covered a lot of big, complicated stories, and I think this is extraordinarily singular.”

Halperin recalls the early weeks of previous second terms like Clinton, Bush and Obama, saying, “It's not like this for obvious reasons. But it also means that he has experienced it. He's also a two-term presidency. He knows more about how he does his job and what he wants.”

“And while it and the arc of personality and historical narratives are all very persuasive, what's important is the real lives of real people, and this is the impact that it will have on American government and the world as well as on American history. And he just goes downfield “We're narrowing down the search,” Halperin said. “The Democrats are nowhere on the ground, the media is nowhere on the field. There are no liberal interest groups anywhere on the field. I think the reason why they get so sick will ultimately be studied. I have never seen anything that is not just his enemy's activity, but also incapable of being able to forget to stop him. With a few exceptions, they barely have It's slowing him down.” (Related: Trump reveals “more modest” vision of executive order)
