California Drug Trafficking Operation Thwarted After Rideshare Mistake
A man’s alleged drug trafficking operation in California faced a significant setback when he mistakenly left a backpack filled with suspected methamphetamine in a rideshare vehicle, as reported by police.
The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) stated that around three-quarters of a pound of suspected meth was recovered following a call from the rideshare driver on a Sunday afternoon.
This quantity of meth is estimated to have a street value exceeding $30,000. Prices for the substance can be quite high—sometimes hitting up to $100 per gram, according to various reports.
The SFPD explained that the suspect’s rideshare journey took an unusual twist when he forgot a bag containing over 300 grams of meth.
This incident took place in the Tenderloin area, known for its ongoing issues with drug activity, homelessness, and crime.
Authorities identified the suspect as Jesse Ottman Kom, a 41-year-old from Sacramento.
Working alongside the rideshare driver, police managed to locate Kom at the motel where he was staying. Officers retrieved the backpack and subsequently searched his room, finding two cell phones, two tablets, and various drug paraphernalia.
All suspected methamphetamine items from the rideshare vehicle have been collected as evidence by the police.
In total, the authorities confiscated 355.7 grams of the suspected drug. Kom was arrested and is facing charges related to possession and distribution of methamphetamine.
The investigation remains active as police continue to pursue further leads.
