Indiana Senate Candidate Arrested for Cocaine Possession
An Indiana Democratic U.S. Senate candidate was apprehended while wandering a neighborhood under the influence of cocaine, according to police. His erratic actions and a brief struggle led to the discovery of drugs found in his vehicle.
Andrew Dezeran, 38, who is campaigning for the May 5 Democratic primary in Senate District 31, is now facing a charge for possession of cocaine along with a misdemeanor for resisting law enforcement following his arrest on Sunday night.
Authorities responded to reports of a man going door to door in the Fishers area around 8 p.m., as noted by WRTV. When officers found Dezeran in his car at a nearby clubhouse, he claimed he was engaged in street work.
The probable cause affidavit revealed that officers quickly observed signs of impairment including rapid speech, erratic movements, excessive sweating, and constricted pupils.
When asked for identification, Dezeran reportedly became agitated, searching through his vehicle and expressing a desire to leave. According to police, he reversed his car despite being instructed to stop and put his hands in his pockets.
Officers opened the car door and forcibly removed him, and he was subsequently pushed to the ground several times and handcuffed.
A further search of the vehicle discovered a small bag of powder that tested positive for cocaine.
Dezeran was booked into the Hamilton County Jail.
He is one of four candidates vying for the Democratic nomination in the district, which encompasses areas of Fishers and Lawrence.
