A mother of two from Indiana suddenly died after falling ill on an American Airlines flight to the United States and being forced to divert.
The unidentified 41-year-old woman was headed to Charlotte, North Carolina, on American Airlines Flight 2790 from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on Wednesday. The woman became unwell during the flight.
Shortly after 6 p.m., the woman from central Indiana was given CPR on the plane. The plane was diverted to Providenciales International Airport on the Caribbean island of Turks and Caicos for emergency medical assistance.
However, the woman died suddenly, police said.
Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police said in a statement: “A medical team was dispatched along with police forces and the patient was taken to Cheshire Hall Medical Center, where he died.” press release.
Turks and Caicos Islands authorities said a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of the woman’s sudden death.

According to the report, the woman identified the passenger as her sister-in-law on Facebook.
“This was my sister-in-law,” said a woman named Stephanie Quinn from Indiana. “We are in disbelief and heartbroken.”
“Being the only girl among five children, you can imagine how protected she was by the boys,” Quinn said. She said: “She has a big heart and is the mother of two beautiful children who achieved straight grades in school. Now my nephew will be without his mother at his graduation in May.”
Quinn wrote a letter to the Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police saying: “She is still out there so please be very careful until you get home.”
