Iranian President Massoud Pezechkian Used In a speech to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, he attacked Israel for representing Hamas' Iranian terrorist clients, a sharp but somewhat disappointing denunciation from an Iranian second-in-command who presents himself as a more compassionate and reformist leader.
Pezeshkian spent several minutes touting his policies of “reform, national empathy, constructive engagement with the world and economic development” and promoting Shiite Islam as a religion of “peace, justice and universal tolerance” before launching into a recitation of Hamas propaganda about Israel's allegedly brutal operations in Gaza.
Pezeshkian slammed Israel for what he called “legitimate self-defense” in a campaign of “genocide, child murder, war crimes and state terror.”
“They call hospitals, kindergartens and schools 'legitimate military targets'; they call freedom-loving and brave people around the world who protest their genocide 'anti-Semites'; they call oppressed peoples who have resisted 70 years of occupation and humiliation 'terrorists',” he denounced.
Iran is the world's largest sponsor of terrorism, but in Pezechkian's distorted worldview, Iran is merely supporting “people's liberation movements.”
“We stand with the angry people around the world who have taken to the streets. “We protest against Israeli atrocities. We condemn Israel's crimes against humanity,” he said.
Like other terror-sponsoring leaders who have addressed the UN General Assembly, Pezeshkian made no mention of the unspeakable atrocities committed by Hamas against Israeli civilians, including women, children and infants, on October 7. He carefully avoided mentioning Hamas' use of human shields, terror tunnels, criminal abuse of hostages, and tendency to place weapons in civilian areas.
Pezeshkian portrayed Iran as a helpless victim of “threats, war, occupation and sanctions.”
“Iran has never started a war. It has only bravely defended itself against external aggression and made the aggressors regret their actions,” he asserted.
Of course, Iran always Iran wages wars of aggression against its neighbors and the West, using splinter and proxy forces such as Shiite terrorist militias in Iraq, the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization that has devastated Lebanon, and Houthi pirates in Yemen who have carried out reckless attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea.
In his speech, Pezeskian made no mention of Iran's vicious proxy forces, nor did he acknowledge responsibility for arming and training them.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran seeks to protect its own security, not to intimidate other countries. We want peace for all people and do not want war or conflict with anyone,” the Iranian president asserted around the same time the reports broke. Destroy Iran brokered a deal with Russia to supply the Houthis with even more dangerous anti-ship missiles.
Pezeshkian mentioned Russia briefly, but only in the context of asserting that Iran wishes “lasting peace and security” to both Russia and Ukraine.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran opposes war and stresses the need for an immediate end to military hostilities in Ukraine. We support all peaceful solutions and believe that dialogue is the only way to resolve this crisis,” he said.
Pezeshkian criticized former US President Donald Trump's withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), but did not mention any Iranian wrongdoing that prompted the withdrawal.
Pezechkian also avoided Mention Recent Complaints The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned that Iran has stopped cooperating with investigators while rushing to build up its nuclear arsenal in violation of the treaty. Stockpiling Of enriched uranium.
Instead, the Iranian leader slammed the sanctions as inhumane, demanded that the US unilaterally lift all sanctions, and said his government was ready to “negotiate with JCPOA participants.”
Pezechkian complained about Trump. order Liquidation Pezeshkian mourned the death of General Qassem Soleimani of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in January 2020, but did not mention that Soleimani's mission was to destabilize other governments in the Middle East (something he argues Iran has never been involved in) or that he was killed in Baghdad while planning terrorist attacks against Americans with the help of Iraqi Shiite militias.
The Iranian leader deployed his closing remarks as a direct statement to the American people, implicitly pleading with, or threatening to, not return Trump to the White House.
“Iran is ready to build meaningful economic, social, political and security partnerships on an equal footing with global powers and neighboring countries to build a better future world,” he asserted.
“The appropriate response to this message from Iran is not to impose further sanctions, but to fulfill existing obligations to lift sanctions, benefiting the Iranian people and laying the groundwork for a more constructive agreement,” he concluded.
