US and Iran Agree to Pause Hostilities
This week, the United States and Iran reportedly decided to suspend hostilities and engage in discussions after a series of strikes exchanged between the two nations. The U.S. had targeted several locations in Tehran, prompting Iran to retaliate with attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait.
A senior U.S. official shared with Axios that an agreement had been reached, and meetings were planned for Tuesday in Qatar.
The tensions reportedly stem from differing interpretations of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that both countries had agreed upon.
These differences, as noted in the report, revolve around the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. official further indicated that the decision was made to halt all offensive activities.
According to a report from Breitbart News, a significant aspect of the memorandum regarding the Strait of Hormuz indicates that the U.S. will implement a naval blockade aimed at Iran and will work to remove any hindrances.
Upon signing the memorandum, the U.S. is expected to begin a naval blockade and eliminate any disruptions concerning Iran. The blockade is anticipated to be fully lifted within 30 days, restoring ship traffic to pre-war levels. Furthermore, the U.S. commits to withdrawing its forces from areas near Iran within 30 days of the final agreement.
Breitbart’s Simon Kent reported that Iran’s recent focus on Bahrain and Kuwait is a direct response to U.S. airstrikes targeting the Islamic Republic. This follows an announcement from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirming new attacks on Iran in light of an incident involving a Panama-flagged oil tanker.
In a post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump mentioned that U.S. military aircraft had struck Iran’s missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar facilities, citing violations of the ceasefire agreement. He conveyed concern that the U.S. might reach a tipping point where military action would become unavoidable.
Trump stated, “American aircraft just attacked Iranian missile and drone storage sites and coastal radar facilities in violation of the ceasefire agreement! It is very likely that they will never learn! There may come a point when we will no longer be able to remain rational and will be forced to militarily complete the work we successfully started. If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!”
