Iraq War veteran Thomas Sanford identified as the shooter who attacked Grand Blanc LDS church, resulting in 2 deaths and a fire.

Thomas Jacob Sanford, a 40-year-old US Marine vet, is the suspect accused of killing at least two individuals and injuring nine others at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Reports indicate that he entered the church with a semi-automatic rifle, targeting the congregation as they attempted to escape.

According to his mother’s social media, Sanford served in Iraq between 2004 and 2008 and died in a confrontation with police at the scene. Local authorities confirmed his identity as the shooter.

There is currently uncertainty about the origins of any fire associated with the incident, but sources mention that improvised explosive devices were found on the church’s property as investigators commenced their work.

Witnesses have reported that hundreds were in attendance when the attack occurred, and officials believe that once the situation stabilizes, the number of casualties may rise significantly.

Sanford’s social media presence is being examined, and it appears he had connections to various accounts.

A GoFundMe page linked to Sanford previously raised over $3,000 for the son of a couple dealing with congenital hyperinsulinism, which is a rare condition affecting the release of insulin in the pancreas.

His social media reflects moments of family life, featuring joyful images like smiling together in fields of sunflowers or lounging in pickup trucks.
