Iran and Israel Engage in Escalating Conflict
Jerusalem/Washington, June 21 – Tensions between Iran and Israel intensified early Saturday, with both nations launching new attacks. Iran stated that they wouldn’t entertain negotiations regarding their nuclear program while being threatened, while Europe attempted to keep diplomatic discussions ongoing.
Around 2:30 AM local time in Israel, warnings were issued about an incoming missile attack from Iran, triggering air raid sirens across central Israel, including in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Tel Aviv.
Israel’s air defense systems kicked into action. People reported seeing interceptions light up the sky above Tel Aviv, and the sounds of explosions echoed throughout the metropolitan area.
Simultaneously, Israel initiated a fresh series of strikes aimed at Iran’s missile storage and launching sites, according to Israeli military sources.
In southern Israel, sirens sounded as well, according to Mazen David Admu from Israel’s national emergency services. Military officials noted that Iran fired five ballistic missiles, yet there were no immediate indications of where they landed.
As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of casualties.
Emergency services shared images showing a roof illuminated in flames from a multi-story residential building in central Israel, with local media attributing the fire to debris from intercepted missiles.
Last Friday, Israel had begun its offensive against Iran, alleging that its longstanding adversary was nearing the capability to develop nuclear weapons. In response, Iran claimed its nuclear program was peaceful, retaliating with missile and drone strikes against Israeli targets.
It’s widely suspected that Israel possesses nuclear weapons, although officials have refrained from confirming or denying this claim.
In Iran, reports indicate that an airstrike resulted in 639 fatalities, as per the Human Rights Activists Communications Agency, a US-based organization monitoring the situation. This count includes high-ranking military personnel and nuclear scientists.
Authorities have reported that, in Israel, 24 civilians lost their lives due to the missile attacks from Iran.
Moreover, independent verification of the casualty figures has not been possible. This ongoing conflict raises questions and concerns over the stability in the region.
