Israel Evacuates Embassies, Raises Alert Level Anticipating Iranian Retaliation

Israeli embassies around the world have increased security measures, The Jerusalem Post reported Thursday.

In response to the growing threat of Iranian attacks targeting Israeli diplomats, Israeli embassies around the world have increased security and according to To the Jerusalem Post. The threat is believed to be in retaliation for Israel’s military action in Syria that led to the death of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) leader Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

As tensions escalate, some Israeli ambassadors have been given explicit advice to refrain from attending public gatherings to reduce security risks, the newspaper reported. The warning comes against a backdrop of concerns about possible retaliatory attacks by Iran, especially in the wake of Israel’s alleged operations in Syria. The Jerusalem Post reported that Israeli authorities denied reports of a worldwide recall or evacuation of ambassadors and embassy staff. Reports said there was a joint decision by Israel’s Foreign Ministry and Shin Bet security forces, but Israel now rejects this.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Israeli diplomatic missions have faced security threats for years. After Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, the embassy reportedly received a warning about the specific threat the next day. In some cases, such threats have come true, such as the attack on an Israeli embassy employee in Beijing on October 13th who was eventually hospitalized but is in stable condition.
