Israel mobilizes 70,000 reservists as tensions rise after Iran's missile response.

Israeli Operation Targets Iran

On Saturday, Israelis woke up to reports that Operation Roaring Lion, a collaborative military effort between the U.S. and Israel, had begun targeting military sites in Iran. Within a few hours, satellite images surfaced in Israeli media, showing damage to locations linked to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, following the initial strikes.

In response, Iran launched a barrage of missiles, triggering air raid alarms throughout the country. An Israeli military source mentioned there were no serious impacts reported during a press briefing, although it was noted that each missile fired represented “more than a dozen rounds.” Civil defense groups urged citizens to adhere to security protocols and refrain from sharing real-time information about the missile strikes.

During a speech on Saturday morning, President Donald Trump condemned Iran for its role in regional chaos, stating, “From Lebanon to Yemen, Syria to Iraq, the regime has armed, trained, and financed terrorist militias that have drenched the earth in blood and guts. And it was Iran’s proxy, Hamas, that launched the colossal attack on Israel on October 7, massacring more than 1,000 innocent people.” He described the hostage-taking of twelve American citizens as an unprecedented act of brutality.

Trump reiterated, “Iran is the world’s number one sponsor of terrorism…My administration has always maintained that this terrorist regime must never have nuclear weapons. Let me say it again: They can never have nuclear weapons.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the nation, urging citizens to display resilience in the days ahead. His remarks echoed a broader sentiment among Israeli leadership that the ongoing operation was crucial and likely to extend over time.

Israeli officials declared that the mission’s goal was to significantly weaken Iran’s capabilities, citing the regime’s recent attempts to enhance missile production and obscure aspects of its nuclear program as justification for the offensive.

Local reports suggested that Ali Shamkhani, a senior advisor to Khamenei and a key figure in Iran’s nuclear strategy, might have been killed during the operation. However, the military has not confirmed any specific targets, stating that assessments are still ongoing.

Israel’s National Security Council has issued warnings to its citizens abroad, encouraging enhanced vigilance in all locations, particularly against potential threats targeting Israelis and Jews.

Back home, the atmosphere was a blend of tension and discipline. Some schools transitioned to remote learning, reservists received draft orders, and families ensured their shelters were stocked. The military announced the call-up of about 70,000 reservists, primarily for air defense tasks and border reinforcement.

Authorities are deploying forces across all borders to prepare for potential escalations involving Iranian-backed groups, including Hezbollah and Hamas. While asserting that the military targets were not civilian, leaders acknowledged that public patience might be tested in the following days.

For now, Israelis are closely monitoring developments, with officials indicating that the operation will continue “for as long as necessary” while bracing for further retaliation.
