Israel ‘Needs to’ Stop Fighting and ‘Focus on Restoring Order’ — ‘Hope’ Hostages Can Be Released

On Thursday’s MSNBC show “Alex Wagner Tonight,” U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said without any conditions on the release of hostages held by Hamas, saying, “Israel must cease military operations immediately. We need to focus on restoring order and fighting hunger.” , but he hopes some agreement can be reached to release the hostages.

Murphy said: “I have come to the conclusion that hostages must cease immediately. I will not make the release of the hostages a condition.” However, I believe that the humanitarian situation on the ground today is so dire with potential famine that Israel must immediately halt military operations and focus on restoring order and fighting hunger. That is my position. The administration has taken a different position that it will clearly state at the United Nations tomorrow. I do not think that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s arrival will change my position. I don’t know if we should prevent him from coming and explaining his position. We are an institution that welcomes open dialogue, and we welcome dialogue even with leaders we don’t fully agree with. You should do it.”
