National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Tuesday that Israel’s efforts to expand humanitarian aid to Gaza are slowing despite a record number of aid trucks entering the Gaza Strip every day since last week. “It’s not enough,” he said.
As Breitbart News reported early Tuesday, Israel moved a record number of aid trucks into Gaza on Sunday, and the number of trucks reached 419 again on Monday. Before the war, 70 food trucks were entering Gaza every day.
The increase in aid has continued throughout the war, but accelerated last week after President Joe Biden called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for an “immediate ceasefire” following the accidental deaths of seven aid workers. Israel has taken steps to withdraw ground forces from southern Gaza and open additional crossing points into Gaza for humanitarian assistance. This includes the Erez intersection, which was attacked by Hamas terrorists on October 7th.
Still, Sullivan was not satisfied. “That’s good; it’s not good enough,” he said. He did not say what else Israel had to do to satisfy the administration’s concerns, but he said U.S. policy toward Israel would be significantly different from the White House’s demands, which have not yet been clarified. He suggested that it would depend on whether the government complied.
united nations claimed Israel was not actually increasing aid to Gaza, as the trucks that entered Gaza were less than half full. However, as the UN itself acknowledged, this was a standard requirement by Israeli authorities to allow inspection of trucks. Israel claims the United Nations has failed to distribute enough aid and that much of it is stolen by Hamas.
Sullivan also called on Congress to pass a renewal of the government’s Section 702 surveillance powers, which were abused to monitor members of the Trump campaign in 2016 and 2017. The improper surveillance came after Sullivan and other Hillary Clinton campaign staffers spread the “Russia collusion” hoax, which led the FBI to target Trump associates. Mr. Sullivan has never apologized for his role in misleading Congress or the media.
