Israel’s foreign minister on Wednesday drew a line under Iran, warning the country that if Iran launches an attack on Israel from within its territory, Israel will respond with a direct attack on Iranian targets.
Minister Yisrael Katz issued the warning after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei again threatened retaliation for an Israeli airstrike that killed several Iranian military leaders in Syria last week.
“If Iran attacks from its own territory, Israel will respond by attacking inside Iran,” Katz wrote in a post on X.
Iran has carried out attacks against Israel for years, usually through proxies of terrorist organizations such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. A direct attack by Iran on Israel, as well as an attack by Israel on targets inside Iranian territory, would constitute a significant escalation of the conflict.
