Israel warns Iran amid ongoing strikes: ‘Tehran will burn’

On Saturday, Israel issued a strong warning to Iran as tensions between the two nations escalated. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared that if Iran continues its missile strikes, “Tehran is on fire.” This assertion was made via a post on social media in light of recent events.

Katz accused the Iranian leadership of holding its citizens hostage through reckless policies aimed at preserving their regime. His comments followed a retaliatory drone attack from Iran on Israel, which came after an Israeli surprise strike the day before.

The initial Israeli attack resulted in the deaths of several high-profile figures, including close associates of Ayatollah Khamenei, nuclear scientists, and military commanders from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard and the Iranian army.

The back-and-forth violence continued through Saturday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the operation’s goal was to target and cripple Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Overnight strikes reportedly led to the deaths of around nine senior Iranian scientists linked to nuclear advancements.

The Israeli Defense Forces stated that these individuals were critical to the advancement of Iran’s nuclear weapons program, noting that their removal significantly impacts the regime’s ability to develop such dangerous capabilities.

Furthermore, two additional high-ranking officials within Iranian defense circles were confirmed dead by the Iranian government. The toll of violence affected civilians as well, with approximately 320 injured and 78 fatalities reported due to the aerial bombardments.

The IDF indicated its intention to continue striking Iranian locales in the East Azerbaijan, Kermanshah, and Lorestan regions in response to Iranian counterattacks aimed at Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. During the night, sirens were activated across several areas in Israel as incoming threats were detected.

Additionally, two rockets were launched from Gaza towards Israel, although there were no reported injuries from these incidents.

The ongoing turmoil has also complicated nuclear negotiations between the U.S. and Iran. President Trump has been advocating for a new agreement which would involve dismantling Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Following Israel’s recent assaults, Trump urged the Iranian leadership to return to the negotiation table, claiming that “more destruction is on the horizon” if diplomatic efforts aren’t reengaged. He emphasized that Iran needs to act quickly to preserve what remains of its former state.

Trump indicated that this moment might be viewed as a second chance for Iran, despite ongoing pressure.

Iran, however, has suggested it might withdraw from the upcoming nuclear discussions planned for Sunday in Oman. The U.S. government stated that it was not involved in Israel’s recent military actions, though it began repositioning its military resources and assisted in countering incoming missile threats the same day.

Tehran has warned that it would retaliate against any British, French, or American military involvement by targeting vessels in the Red Sea.

In Israel, Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, noted on social media that the night had been particularly turbulent. He reflected on the significant presence of Americans living in Israel and cautioned that aggression against Israel could ultimately threaten them as well.
