‘It Was Quite Strange’: Victor Davis Hanson States ‘Main Question’ About Biden’s Border Policies is Still Unresolved

Victor Davis Hanson Critiques Biden’s Border Policy

On Fox News, Victor Davis Hanson criticized President Biden’s approach to border control, labeling it as irrational and devastating, leaving many puzzled by its motivations.

The discussion followed a violent subway robbery involving a 12-year-old immigrant boy, who had previously been released easily. He now faces charges for leading a gang that assaulted NYPD officers in Times Square and committed a series of robberies in Central Park. During his appearance on “Hannity,” Hanson expressed that Biden didn’t merely fail to secure the southern border; he seemingly dismantled any efforts to do so.

“The main question, Sean, is why Biden did this. Was it an attempt to attract new voters via early and mail-in voting?” Hanson questioned Biden’s rationale for opening the borders. “Was it simply nihilism to punish half the country? Did he really not believe in the border at all? It’s so bizarre that it’s hard to comprehend why anyone would inflict such damage on their country. It took two generations to address this issue, and he just left it in shambles. This might be the worst action taken by any administration in that White House,” he added.

Hanson contended that Biden’s immigration policy was intentionally harmful rather than just irresponsible.

“I believe historians will look back and regard this as the most damaging action by a president in 50 years. It was a calculated move to disrupt border control and allow approximately 12 million people in. The secondary effect was that these individuals lived here illegally and received preferential treatment,” he observed.

Hanson highlighted two levels of leniency toward illegal immigration under Biden’s administration, pointing out that many immigrants often avoided vaccine mandates and identification requirements enforced on American citizens.

“In some instances, they weren’t even required to show actual ID to board flights. They also were not mandated to get COVID vaccinations, which showed a sense of entitlement, while law enforcement seemed to be weakened, though not completely dismantled,” Hanson remarked.

In the early days of the Trump administration, robust immigration enforcement efforts reported a dramatic reduction in encounters at the border. According to a White House report, encounters declined by 93%, and illegal crossings nearly hit a 100% drop. In that timeframe, over 151,000 undocumented immigrants were detained, and more than 135,000 were deported, including gang members from MS-13 and Tren de Aragua. Furthermore, the administration scrapped a Biden-era CBP app that had allowed immigrants to flood the asylum system with over 160 million booking requests in two years.
