Correction from CNN Anchor on Pipe Bomb Suspect Description
CNN’s Jake Tapper made a notable error on Friday when he mistakenly identified the Washington, D.C. pipe bomb suspect as a “white man.” This comment raised some eyebrows.
On Thursday, while discussing Brian Cole Jr., who is suspected of placing pipe bombs near the RNC and DNC headquarters ahead of January 6, Tapper described him as a “30-year-old white male.” However, during a later segment, he corrected himself, stating, “I should note that yesterday, minutes before I showed you a photo of the suspect, I incorrectly said the suspect was white. As you can clearly see in the photo, he is clearly black. We apologize for the mistake.”
CNN did not respond to inquiries for comments regarding this misstatement.
The Department of Justice confirmed that Cole has been charged with transporting explosives across state lines and maliciously attempting to cause destruction using fire or explosives. Further charges are anticipated, according to authorities.
These charges seem to mark the conclusion of a lengthy search for the suspect.
Who is DC Pipe Bomb Suspect Brian Cole Jr.?
Officials mentioned that Cole’s arrest came after the FBI gathered evidence over a span of years under previous leadership.
Fortunately, although the pipe bombs situated near the political headquarters did not explode, they were still deemed viable and dangerous.
Cole appeared in court on Friday but did not enter a plea.
