Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About True Romance and Office Romance
In a recent podcast episode of Films to be Buried With, actress and singer Jennifer Lopez, age 56, got candid about her feelings regarding the cast of the 1993 film True Romance. The podcast is hosted by her Office Romance co-star Brett Goldstein.
Lopez discussed the film, noting its array of “shady characters,” particularly highlighting Christian Slater, who portrays a record store employee with Elvis hallucinations, and Val Kilmer’s depiction of Elvis. She pointed out Patricia Arquette as the “sweetest whore with a heart of gold,” which encapsulates her memorable role in the film.
She reminisced about other cast members too, like Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper, even joking, “I would have had sex with any of them.” It’s a bold claim, perhaps indicative of her playful side and appreciation for the actors’ talents.
“That’s the truth,” she quipped. “They all were. It says a lot about me, but maybe it’s like my dark side. Okay. But they were all incredible in this movie. Their performances were so top-notch, so believable, so dynamic.”
In a vivid recollection, Lopez mentioned a scene where Arquette’s character is hit by Gandolfini. Despite the injury leaving her “face swollen for the rest of the movie,” Lopez still thought she looked “sexy” and shared that she felt like kissing her on the lips. It’s an interesting remark, hinting at her admiration for Arquette’s performance.
The plot of True Romance features an Elvis enthusiast falling for a prostitute, leading to a chaotic adventure involving stolen cocaine and the mob, which puts their relationship to the test.
Lopez and Goldstein are promoting their latest romantic comedy, Office Romance, available on Netflix. In it, Lopez plays a powerful CEO whose strict no-dating rule gets complicated with the arrival of a charming lawyer.
Goldstein, who co-wrote the film, discussed Lopez’s previous romantic comedy roles, emphasizing that they aimed to create a love letter to workaholics. He mused about what it would look like if she were a successful CEO now; someone who takes pride in her work and has built a strong career.
Lopez expressed her excitement about participating in the project, remarking that while the script has a “wholesome quality,” it also delivers “hard jokes that people would abuse”—a blend that clearly showcases Goldstein’s unique style.
