Jennifer Lopez's large Wimbledon hat draws criticism on social media

Jennifer Lopez made quite the impression at Wimbledon this past weekend with her eye-catching oversized hat, but it wasn’t all positive feedback. The 56-year-old star donned a large, wide-brimmed Ralph Lauren hat while attending the men’s singles final at the All England Club in London, and soon enough, social media lit up with mixed reactions.

Sitting beside Tom Hiddleston in the Royal Box, fans quickly expressed their discontent online. One user bluntly commented, “That’s disgusting. She needs two extra seats just for her hat.” Another critic chimed in, “A hat like this is not appropriate for an event like this! Girl, do your homework!”

It didn’t stop there. Comments ranged from mocking—like one user humorously suggesting, “Jenny from the block blocking views”—to serious critiques about event etiquette. Someone pointed out that those who paid for seats might miss out on the action due to her headgear, while another lamented, “Imagine sitting behind that hat. You couldn’t see a thing.”

While some spectators bemoaned Lopez’s choice, others defended her, noting that she later removed the hat to enjoy the match. “She took off her hat. People leave this woman alone,” one fan argued.

Interestingly, despite the hat backlash, there were fans who loved her bold look. One person wrote, “Big hat energy!” while another praised, “What an elegant woman.” Yet, it does raise questions about hat etiquette at such events. Although hats aren’t prohibited in the Royal Box, guests are usually expected to take them off if they obstruct views.

This particular Wimbledon has been dealing with a heatwave, leading to relaxed restrictions around headwear. Interestingly enough, other figures like Duchess Kate were also seen sporting hats, though she predominantly removed hers while seated or presenting trophies.

In the midst of all this, the star-studded Royal Box included celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Andrew Garfield, and of course, members of the royal family like Prince William and his children. On the court, World No. 1 Yannick Sinner triumphed over Alexander Zverev, marking his second consecutive Wimbledon title.
