Joe Biden Can End ‘Historic Invasion’ at Southern Border

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said President Joe Biden doesn’t need to pass any legislation through Congress to stop the “historic invasion” at the U.S.-Mexico border.

At a press conference Wednesday, Vance said Biden would raise the level of legal immigration while allowing tens of thousands of border encounters each month before the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) implements strict border controls. He has expressed his opposition to the immigration bill he supports.

Vance and other Senate Republicans said the bill was unnecessary.

“The executive branch has broad discretion to enforce border laws. Now we must remember what Joe Biden was doing three and a half years ago when he walked into the Oval Office, bragging that they were rolling back the previous administration’s border policies,” Vance said.

They boasted about expanding “catch and release.” They boasted about ending Remain in Mexico. They bragged about changing asylum enforcement laws in this country. [Emphasis added]

We all said there would be a crisis at our southern border, but after three and a half years of touting policy changes and seeing the expected results. It would be fair to say that a historic crisis, a historic invasion, is currently occurring on our nation’s southern border. [Emphasis added]

“If Biden opens the southern border, Joe Biden closes the southern border. It really is that simple,” Vance said. “We won’t be able to solve this problem.”

“This is a terrible combination for immigration policy, and that’s why we keep fighting,” Vance said. “You have to ask yourself why Democrats care about this issue when they brag about an open southern border. Is it because they haven’t seen the wreckage and carnage of the past two years? ? No, because they look at the polls and know what’s going to happen.”

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) similarly called the bill “an election-year campaign designed to give my Democratic colleagues the appearance that they’re doing something about this issue without doing anything.” “It’s a political stunt.”

“We are a nation of law and order, but the Biden administration has allowed more than 10 million illegal immigrants to enter our border,” Blackburn continued.

This is more than the population of seven major U.S. cities (Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Knoxville, Memphis, and Nashville) combined. Under this administration, every town is a border town.

Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) said President Biden and Senate Democrats should express their support for H.R. 2, the border security bill approved by the House of Representatives. right:

  • Urged DHS to complete southern border wall
  • Prohibit funding for non-governmental organizations that promote illegal immigration
  • Require DHS to collect biometric data of all apprehended immigrants
  • Raise the standard for “credible fear” at the southern border
  • Prohibit asylum for prisoners and gang members
  • Requires DHS to detain and deport illegal immigrants
  • Reinstate the Stay in Mexico policy
  • E-Verify will be made mandatory nationwide to prevent employers from hiring illegal aliens
  • Severe restrictions on parole to prevent the mass release of immigrants into the interior of the United States

“HR 2 is a great solution,” Marshall said. “It was introduced on the floor last night with unanimous consent. We just asked for unanimous consent to take up this bill. Senator Cruz and I led it last night, and they’re not even willing to take it up.”
