Jonathan Quick's remarkable career concludes with a defeat as a late goal costs the Rangers.

SUNRISE, Fla. — The Rangers had a strong desire to win this game.

Earlier in the day, Jonathan Quick announced his retirement. In response, the entire team put in extra effort to send him off in style, hoping to secure a victory for the veteran goaltender, who many consider a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

During warmups, each player donned Quick’s No. 32 jersey, and they fought back from a two-goal deficit. By the third period, they were tied with the opposing team, which was vying for a playoff position.

Despite their efforts, the Panthers, a team significantly weakened, triumphed 3-2. Cole Reinhardt scored the game-winning goal with just 1 minute and 50 seconds left.

Mika Zibanejad reflected on the game, saying, “Sadly, we had chances but just couldn’t put them away. We definitely wanted to help him finish on a high note. It’s disappointing.” The Rangers had some defensive missteps early on, letting the Panthers capitalize on a few unusual opportunities.

The Panthers managed to break the Rangers’ defense effectively, with Reinhardt scoring off a redirect from Quick. Macky Samoskevic added to the score, blocking a shot from Braden Schneider and then converting on a contested breakaway, making it 2-0.

The Rangers showed their commitment to defense, sacrificing their bodies to break up plays and being aggressive in their zone.

“The team played great,” Quick remarked. “I wish I could have made a few more saves. They deserved to win, but it was special to be out there one last time.”

Matthew Robertson and Gabe Perreault managed to score for the Rangers in the first and second periods, respectively, keeping their hopes alive into the final frame. They overwhelmed the Panthers with a solid offensive effort, outscoring them 13-4 and creating numerous chances, but ultimately couldn’t secure the goal that Quick needed.

Vincent Trocheck spoke highly of Quick, saying, “He’s a fantastic teammate. It’s something I’ve had on my mind since finding out this was going to be his last year. Everyone you talk to about him echoes the same sentiments.” Trocheck further emphasized Quick’s legacy and impact on the game, noting that Quick’s career achievements, including three championship wins, solidify his place in hockey history.
