Journalists heard joking on hot mic, evoking JFK, when seeking better ‘shot’ of former President Trump

Hot Mic on Tuesday picked up what appeared to be a member of the media joking about the assassination of John F. Kennedy while covering former President Trump's legal proceedings.

Unidentified voices waited outside the federal courthouse for the former president to arrive in Washington, D.C.

“You know what's the worst? Even if he opens the window and hangs out of it, he'll be on the other side of the road,” one person can be heard saying on a live feed from The Associated Press. Ta. ; The conversation started with 53:53 Mark here.

The men appeared to be preparing to film President Trump when he arrived at the courthouse.

“So if he's driving, you'll get a good shot,” a second person joked, before the first voice said, “Yeah, if he's driving with the front window open. “In that case,” he replied.

Afterward, the two agreed that Trump would have a better chance if he arrived in a convertible, but one of the men remarked, “He looks like JFK.”

Laughter could be heard on the Associated Press live feed before one of the men elaborated.

“Maybe someone will say to JFK, 'You know what to do? You should get in a convertible, it's so nice outside,'” the media source said. The weather in Washington, DC on Tuesday was wet and cold.

President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963 while riding in a convertible limousine in downtown Dallas, Texas.

The statement raised eyebrows online, given the importance of protecting current and former U.S. presidents from harm. Kennedy is the most recent president to die during his time in office, although Ronald Reagan was shot and seriously injured in 1981.

The men on the feed are not identified and there is no indication that they are connected to the AP, as the communications service simply set up a live stream and picked up the audio of people around them. It's common for news outlets to broadcast live streams of breaking news, with occasional ramblings picked up before the event itself begins.
