Joy Behar said in an episode of ABC on Tuesday that Pope Francis is afraid of replacing him with a “conservative man.” ViewMeanwhile, the show’s co-host used the Pope’s death as an opportunity to complain about American politics.
rear View Co-host Sunny Hostin said he hopes the late Pope will be replaced by someone similar to him, and Joy Beher replied, “Because there may be some backlash from how good he is and how humble he is now compared to some of the leaders of this world.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Sarah Haynes said, “There are liberal popes, there are conservative popes.” Before claiming that Pope Francis was “most like Jesus,” he replied in 2013, “Someone is gay and looking for the Lord, who is judged?”
Haynes added that these types of messages were “something that resonated with me.”
Hostin then said, “I struggled with Catholicism, especially due to many of the church’s doctrines, especially with regard to the LGBTQ+ community.”
“I struggled with being a Catholic, but this Pope changed things for me,” Hostin continued, “I feel there is a crisis of empathy in this country.
In citing the lack of empathy among people, Hostin is political, suggesting that Americans do not have empathy with the deportation of members of illegal foreign gangs of crime.
fellow View Co-host Whoopi Goldberg added Pope Francis “just what I wanted.”
“He grew up around refugees, he understood what people needed,” Goldberg continued. “Regardless of whether you like it or not, refugees are with us all over the world. So why do you become negative? Why are you positive and not helpful?”
Behar then oddly declared that the “contrast” between Pope Francis and “someone like masks and Trump” was “surprising.”
