Joy Reid Engages in Heated Debate on CNN Over Trump and Iran
Former MSNBC personality Joy Reid had a tense exchange with a CNN panel this past Tuesday. The discussion erupted as President Donald Trump defended Iran following a military strike on a nuclear facility that occurred over the weekend.
“Iran has supported militias responsible for attacking U.S. troops 170 times across Syria, Jordan, and Iraq. Is that what Joe Biden meant when he authorized an F-15 strike against Iran?” Reid questioned during the “Newsnight” segment.
She expressed skepticism about seeing former President Biden as a moral authority, criticizing him for allowing what she described as “unlimited” Israeli actions against Palestinians in Gaza.
“Look, the reality is, if Iran truly possessed nuclear weapons, Israel wouldn’t be attacking them. I think perhaps the rush for nuclear capabilities by Iran and Saudi Arabia stems from ongoing threats from expansionist powers in their regions,” she stated.
Reid added, “I don’t believe it’s appropriate for Israel to have nuclear weapons. I mean, there’s a lot of obfuscation regarding their nuclear capabilities, too. It’s a valid question—does anyone in this region actually have nuclear arms?”
In response, Arthur Adara interjected, highlighting that Iran is a significant sponsor of terrorism and chaos globally. “They perpetuate violence and death everywhere,” he remarked.
Reid countered, pointing out that LGBTQ individuals in the U.S. faced discrimination, stating, “They can’t even serve in the military under your favorite president. They’re persecuted—they cannot even share their stories in schools.” Adara replied, “We’re not killing them!” to which Reid emphasized, “Sure, they can live, but they’re certainly not free to serve if they want.”
Previously, on “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg drew parallels between the U.S. and Iran in 2025, especially in terms of the experiences of Black people in America today. Co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin challenged this view, suggesting that the conditions in the U.S. are “very different” from those in Iran. Goldberg insisted on her perspective while Hostin joined in, emphasizing that no one can fully comprehend the situation without having lived it.
Reid’s MSNBC show was cancelled earlier this year, and sources speculate that her critical coverage of Trump and her reporting on Gaza may have contributed to her departure.
